Kuala Lumpur, 30 June 2014 – Dagang NeXchange Berhad (formerly known as TIME Engineering Berhad) and a group of philanthropic Malaysian golfers recently celebrated the coming of Ramadan with a group of children living in an orphanage in Medan, Indonesia with a small kenduri and contribution in preparation for the coming fasting month.
The orphanage, Aljamiyatul Washliyah, is located in Medan, Indonesia and is the home of some 500 children. Dagang NeXchange or DNeX contributed dry food items such as rice, flour, sugar to the orphanage especially in preparation for the coming Ramadan. In addition, the company, together with the orphanage, organised a small kenduri for the children in the hope of bringing some cheers to them. The orphanage, managed by a group of volunteers, mainly relies on public contribution to finance its operations.
According to Deputy Executive Chairman of DNeX Datuk Samsul Husin, the company strives to balance its business objectives with the need to contribute to the well-being of the community.
“Community Programmes, such as our initiative with Aljamiyatul Washliyah, form a key component of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and they are focused on education and providing assistance to the underprivileged,” he said.
“Our Community Programmes thus far have been within Malaysia and we believe that such initiatives either taken by corporations, NGOs, or even individuals should not be confined by geography,” he added.
DNeX’s Community Programmes in recent years include:
- providing assistance to institutions nationwide to enable underprivileged children to gain fair access to education and maximise their growth potential
- providing school materials to a group of orang Asli children as well as books for school library
- working together with Badan Kebajikan Islam Kastam (BAKISKA) since 2007 to provide back-to-school supplies such as school uniforms, bags and stationeries to school children
